Class Syllabus

Course Description: This course is designed to improve students’ written communication skills. It will analyze students’ current writing level and determine areas for improvement for each individual, then spend the majority of the semester working to improve those identified areas for improvement. Since word choice is such an integral part of writing, students will also concentrate on improving their vocabulary.

Overview: The main objectives of this course are to enhance your writing, analytical, comprehension and critical thinking skills.

Grading Procedures: You will be graded on your progress throughout the class. You must turn in all required papers; you must demonstrate a strong work ethic and show improvement in your writing over the course of the semester. NO late assignments will be accepted.

The grading scale that is outlined in the student handbook applies.

You will be graded on:
Papers, Quizzes, and Tests 60%
Journals and In-Class Writings 20%
Class Participation 20%
(Class participation is based on your attitude, attendance, staying on task, participating in group discussions and sharing, and peer editing.)

Make-up Work: If you miss a class, the student handbook rules apply.
Remember that all make-up work is the student’s responsibility.

Passes: You will be given two passes per nine-week marking period. They may be used for the bathroom or your locker. I do not give passes to the library, office, counselor. . . . Plan your time accordingly!

Classroom Rules: 1. RESPECT yourselves, me, and each other, and all guests in our classroom.
2. Come to class with a good ATTITUDE!
3. Come to class prepared every day.
